What is a Contributor Day?

The WordPress software is freely provided through the work of volunteers. Every year, local communities all over the world πŸŒŽ gather to contribute their time back to the project in whatever way they feel comfortable, whether its

πŸ—£sharing why you use WordPress,

πŸ—’ following a list of instructions to test new WordPress features,

πŸ’‘ helping others,

🎬 producing and editing videos,

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ« writing and editing training curriculum,

πŸ“‘ coming up with marketing ideas,

and so much more.

Here’s a short 4 minute interview from last year with Contributor Day organizer, Naomi C. Bush.

Do I have to be a developer πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»?

No, there are many ways to give back to WordPress. Contributor days are for everyone, on every experience level. Even someone who knows very little about WordPress can contribute by sharing why they use WordPress. So if you can create a WordPress post, Contributor Day is for you!

Did you say free lunch 🍴?

Yes, lunch will be provided.

Do I need a 2-day or 3-day ticket 🎟?

Contributor Day, by itself, is completely free. However, you must have a 2-day ticket if you plan to attend the Saturday/Sunday WordCamp sessions, and a 3-day ticket if you also want to attend any of the Friday workshops.

What can I expect?

The WordCamp Atlanta Contributor Day is very laid back. This year, however, we’re going to start with a special talk by WordPress Core Contributor, WP CLI team contributor, and brand new Triage Team leader Jonathan Desrosiers. He’ll be sharing from his story on how to create your own contribution journey.

Next, we’ll do a short overview of all of the different ways you can contribute to WordPress, then break off into groups to complete the project/activity for your desired contribution area.
