In 2010, suffering from burnout, Derek left his perfectly stable job in academia for the untamed wilderness of freelance web design. One problem- he had no idea how to create websites. The solution? Pay his friend $100 and a case of beer to show Derek how to use WordPress. Since then, Derek has worked on over 200 WordPress websites in various capacities. With the help of his wife, Mallie, Derek runs Get the Gigs, a company that provides web design and branding for professional speakers. When not hammering away at the keyboard, Derek enjoys slapping-the-bass, hiking, and yelling about the Atlanta Falcons.
