You may have heard about Aimee Copeland in the news a while back. WordCamp Atlanta 2018’s keynote speaker is a 30-year-old necrotizing fasciitis survivor and quadruple amputee.

In May of 2012, Aimee contracted flesh-eating bacteria from an injury after falling from a homemade zip line. Against all the odds and medical knowledge, through faith, determination, and love, she survived this insidious disease after four months in the hospital and the amputation of all four of her limbs. Over the past six years, Aimee has discovered that all obstacles in life can serve as tests of spirit and strength.

After her injury, Aimee’s family used a WordPress website to get her message out and raise donations for her medical expenses. Over $100,000 was raised to pay for her initial medical expenses through that website. Her current WordPress site for the Aimee Copeland Foundation has provided a center for all the organization’s activities and fully embodies their brand. Without the power of WordPress, she would not be able to reach the massive number of supporters and recipients of Aimee Copeland Foundation’s work.

In her keynote session, Aimee plans to deliver a message that will inspire us all to strive toward success and happiness with newfound hope, as well as encourage people from all backgrounds and walks of life to meet any situation as their best self.

Aimee currently serves on the Board of Directors of Friends of Disabled Adults and Children and Tools for Life, which are non-profit organizations devoted to helping people with disabilities. She also acts as CEO of Aimee Copeland Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization she launched in 2017. Aimee has earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Georgia, a Master of Arts in psychology from the University of West Georgia, and a Master of Social Work from Valdosta State University. In addition to her work as a motivational speaker and author, she practices individual psychotherapy in Atlanta as a Licensed Master of Social Work.
